The Sudbury Cycling Club

FAQ

How do I get I license?
A first time racer must pass a Learn to Race program and then apply to
	the OCA.

How do I get a proper bike fit?
Fitting a person to a bike is a "process" that takes time and
	experience. Please consult a professional.

How do I benefit from joining the Sudbury Cycling Club?
There are many reasons for joining a well established club. I always
respond by saying "Don't ask what cycling or a club can do for you ...
but what you can do for cycling" - sound familiar?. That being said
... first off, it is hard to argue that there is not power in numbers.
Individual members, the SCC and cycling in general all benefit from
organization through advocacy and sharing of knowledge and information.
Secondly, you can meet other people with the same interest and with
more experience to learn from (i.e., repairs, technique, nutrition,
coaching, bike fit, etc.,). Third, the SCC is Incorporated and
affiliated with the both the Ontario and Canadian Cycling Associations,
and as well, the City of Sudbury.

Do I have to join the OCA?
No ... but the SCC strongly urges all members to join this Association.

Should I buy an expensive bike?
Although I believe you get what you pay for in respect to bikes and
components, you don't need to take out a 2nd mortage to own a reliable
and comfortable two-wheeler. There are a couple of bike buying
websites out there and I have been out-raced and out-toured by many
people with less expensive bikes than my own.

Should I buy an expensive aero front wheel?
Well that depends on how fast you can go and how much money you have!
Many studies have shown that one can benefit from an aero wheel if you
can hold a 40 km per hour average or more. Speeds lower than this
really don't take full effect of such equipment.

How should I adjust my helmet?
A helmet should be approved for safety and have a snug fit. It should
be balanced properly on your head with the chin strap also adjusted to
be snug. Please consult a professional if unsure, and if you fall with
your helmet or see a crack please get it checked out immediately.

Do I need all that fancy clothing?
Cycling apparel is not all show. There are many benifits to wearing
it, such as comfort, increased visibility, perspiration wicking and
cooling, and protection when you fall (i.e., you can end up with less
road rash with a t-shirt under your cycling jersey and gloves protect
	your palms).
